He once pointed his finger at his teacher's nose and hurled vulgarities at her for confiscating his MP3 music player on April 26 last year.

For that, Jeremy Tan Wei Liang was sentenced to 12 months' probation by the Community Court yesterday, according to a report from The Straits Times.

Under the probation order, he will have to perform 60 hours of community service and be counselled on anger management.

However, that wasn't the first "punishment" for the 18-year-old.

The paper also reported that Jeremy's mother had made him toil as a temporary construction worker to help him mend his ways.

Of his experience at the construction sites, the teenager said: "'I now know how the foreigners, the Chinese nationals, feel."

Turning over a new leaf

In the same report from The Straits Times, Tan also shared his aspirations of becoming a tattoo artist at court yesterday.

His mother, administrative assistant Lim Hoon Har, then presented to Community Court judge May Mesenas a drawing that her son did the night before, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Judge Mesenas said he had a talent for it and encouraged him to channel his energy into 'positive activities', continued the report in The Straits Times.

The teen was visibly relieved when he left the court yesterday.

He told The Straits Times reporter that he felt like a changed person.

His mother supported his view, saying that Tan now spends his time drawing and had stopped spending time with his former friends.
