>ALOR STAR, MALAYSIA - A Form Three student yesterday alleged a teacher at his school in Mergong assaulted him on Thursday when he asked another teacher for a school fee receipt. Worse, the 15-year-old said the other teachers who witnessed the incident did nothing to intervene when he was assaulted in the teachers' room.

"I don't know why the teacher attacked me. I had gone to the room to ask one of the teachers for the receipt, but the next thing I knew, a male teacher set upon me," the boy said at his home in Taman Utama.

The boy said the teacher, in his 40s, hurled abusive words at him before hitting him several times with a cane.

"He grabbed my head and knocked me against the blackboard a few times. He punched me in the face and kicked me in the legs before leaving the room."

The schoolboy said several teachers sat in silence despite his pleas for help.

His parents lodged a police report over the incident after he complained to them later the same day.

State Education Department director Misrah Ibrahim said he was unaware of the incident but promised to investigate the boy's claims.
