Seven officers and eight officer cadets were presented with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Merit Scholarship awards at the Temasek Club this afternoon by Dr Ng Eng Hen, the Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence.
Recipients of the scholarship, which was introduced in 1983, may pursue their undergraduate studies in renowned overseas universities.
For instance, scholars under the combat/military scheme can opt to study at prestigious military academies such as West Point, the United States (US) Air Force Academy, the US Naval Academy and the Australian Defence Force Academy.
These top students of the GCE 'A' levels cohort are to?be?groomed for senior command and management positions in the SAF.
Dr Ng also presented the Defence Merit Scholarship awards to three recipients.
