Young S'poreans enjoy more opportunities than their parents: PM

Young Singaporeans are writing their own Singapore stories. They enjoy far more opportunities than their parents ever did, pointed out Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the closing moments of his National Day Rally speech.

"I have this group, Crystaline Tan, Neng Abdul Rashid, David Aw, three of them, SMU graduates, fresh out of school, gone to Dubai, recruited by Fullerton Financial Holdings, Temasek company.

"And they are taking risks, venturing, seizing opportunities and launching off into international careers.

PM Lee also cited the example of Muhammad Fadzuli, a computer games enthusiast.

M. Fadzuli

"He was addicted to computer games as a boy so I think he must have caused his mother a lot of stress but he went to Nanyang Poly, he did a diploma in Entertainment Technology, he topped his class.

"He applied to Carnegie Mellon University in the US which is the best, one of the best universities for computer games.

"And they took him, they gave him advanced standing, they waived the undergrad degree, he's gone in to do a Master's.

"And he got an MDA-ST Electronics scholarship. So now he is on a three month attachment at Disney...helping them to develop a new computer game."

"This is great to keep overseas Singaporeans connected to home news and affairs"

"My favourite was "The Aftermath for Malaysia Election" - (in my opinion), this was a very well crafted world standard image, it is even suitable for a Time magazine cover!"
