A local internet forum has been abuzz with news that actor Vincent Ng had possibly been less than honest about his Wushu (Chinese martial arts) teaching qualifications, reported Shin Min Daily News.
When questioned by Shin Min, Vincent only had one thing to say about the rumours: "Rubbish!"
The 33-year-old star also told the paper that the person who started this rumour "had nothing else better to do".
A member of the forum had alleged, based on a "reliable industry source", that a current or former Mediacorp artiste had lied about his qualifications in his private business dealings.
The source also added that the artiste was known for organizing wushu activities in primary schools, but had not explicitly identified Vincent in the post.
According to the Chinese daily, there were only two artistes in Singapore who had opened wushu academies.
Vincent, however, remains puzzled about where the forum member got his or her information, but maintained that he had never lied about his academic records nor about his martial arts achievements.
He affirmed that he was a qualified and accredited Wushu instructor, adding, "I have no need to explain myself nor to prove my innocence. People who truly know me will be able to vouch for my character and professional background."
Vincent is best known for his roles in several Medicorp serials, particularly in the English drama, Heartlanders, where he played a police officer alongside co-star Aaron Aziz.
Past reports on artistes embroiled in education scandals:
- Korean star, Kang Ji Hwan: Biography on his official website stated that he graduated from Kosei University in Visual Design, which was false. After the truth was uncovered, his management assured fans that the "error" has been rectified.
- HK actor-singer, Ron Ng: Publicly apologised for falsely declaring that he graduated with a Form 5 education, when in fact he left school after obtaining his Form 3.
