Is there something 'not right with our education system'?

"Something is not right with our education system.

"What will these two persons be like when they grow up a few years later?", he questioned after viewing photos of two secondary school students cuddling at a playground.

The photos, sent in by another AsiaOne reader, Mohd Zulkifi, had featured the students rolling around on the ground of a Pasir Ris playground kissing and hugging.

However, other netizens have been quick to defend S'pore's education system: "I find it strange why you all keep pointing fingers at the govt and educational system.

"Don't parents have the duty to teach their young what is right and what is wrong to do?" counteracted dontbfool.

Netizen LuKeeHong agreed: "Blaming the educational system for this young couple's 'in-heat' episode seems strange."

This report is the latest revelation of how teens are more open to having sex at much younger ages.

Previous reports by The Straits Times and The New Paper had highlighted how teens who had started having sex early were clueless about the dangers behind unprotected sex.

One reason given by educators and counsellors: Lack of a comprehensive and structured sex education programme in school, reported The New Paper.

As such, the Ministry of Education and the Health Promotion Board have decided to jointly set up a customised comprehensive health prevention and sex education programme.

The programme, scheduled for launch in November, aims to raise awareness among students on sexually-transmitted diseases, among other things.

Where were the students from?

After the latest report was published, netizens had been quick to wonder if the students had been from Greenview secondary school, as the students' uniforms resembled that of the school's.

However, according to its principal, Mr Koh Kok Khai, the students were, without a doubt, not from the school.

Mr Koh said in a reply to STOMP: " I would like to point out that the students in the photographs are not from Greenview Secondary School. For our school, the boys wear dark green shorts/pants, and for the girls, the collar of their blouse in dark green in colour.

"From the photographs posted online, the boy is wearing white pants and the girl's collar is not dark green in color.

"It is clearly a case of mistaken identity of school."
