my paper
Are O- and A-level results relevant?

I REFER to the letter "Bosses can take cue from Orchard Hotel" (my paper, Oct 15).

I am heartened that the Lifelong Learning Endowment Fund Advisory Council has made such a bold recommendation and is urging employers to take note of this changing trend.

If the council wishes to change employers' mindsets in this direction, it should recommend that application requirements on job websites be changed to reflect it.

Job sites request O- and A-level results, even for high-level positions which require more than 10 years' experience.

What relevance do these results have to doing the job?

Mr Liew Meow Koon
