>KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - A total of 2,063 Penilaian Menengah Rendah candidates at 14 examination centres in Malacca were quarantined when their examination papers could not be taken out of the strongroom at SMK Rahmat Melaka. The key used to open the room broke in the keyhole. The Malaysian Examination Board said it was informed by the Malacca Education Department at 6.55am yesterday.

The scheduled examination papers affected were Living Skills and Arabic, Chinese, Tamil, Punjabi and Iban language subjects.

The board then instructed the department to quarantine the students.

It also contacted the Malacca Security Office, and upon their advice, Fire and Rescue Department officers from Masjid Tanah Melaka were called in at 9am to break the lock.

They successfully opened the strongroom at 10.25am, witnessed by officials from the examination board, Education Department, Masjid Tanah Melaka District Education Office and state security office, the board said in a press statement. The examination papers for yesterday and today were moved to another strongroom. The students sat for their papers at 11am, 1.15pm and 4pm instead of the scheduled 8.15am, 10.30am and 2.15pm.

The affected students were given breakfast and lunch. They were allowed sufficient rest before they sat the other papers.
