UNIVERSITI Sains Malaysia plans to ban vehicles from entering its Penang campus in a move to promote healthy living.

Nanyang Siang Pau reported that initially, vehicles were barred from entering the campus for a day in each month.

The move, given a test run in August, received lukewarm response from university staff members and students.

To encourage them to take part in the project, the university plans to lend out free bicycles.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the university would implement the project soon.
