tabla!
The favourite courses

WHEN it comes to university courses, the top draws are business, banking and finance, computing and engineering.

The local institutions that tabla! spoke with said Indian students gravitate towards these courses more than any other offered in their schools.

The reasons are simple - these courses are marketable and will help them to get a job, in Singapore or anywhere else in the world.

Adding to this traditional list are fields like travel, tourism, hospitality, mass communication and life sciences which are also attracting Indian students.

"Indians are just pragmatic. They will take courses that will get them a good job anywhere."

NUS computer engineering student Praveen Kumar Chandrasekaran, 20

"I have always loved biology and wanted to work in the research field. And with the developments in life sciences here, I have had the chance to get work experience."

- NUS life sciences student Priya Jayagopi, 21

"These courses help you get at least a foot in the door if you want to work here or back home in India."

- SIM business student Debbie Asli, 21

"My dad always encouraged me to come to Singapore. It is an economic hub and he sees a future for me here. You get almost the same degree as you would in New York. He would like me to get a job here and eventually start my own business. It's easier to start a business here in Singapore."

- Singapore Institute of Management business management studnet Abhinav Shiv, 22

READERS' POSTINGS
"This is great to keep overseas Singaporeans connected to home news and affairs"

"My favourite was "The Aftermath for Malaysia Election" - (in my opinion), this was a very well crafted world standard image, it is even suitable for a Time magazine cover!"
