ADHITYA GANESH, Class 8
NPSI ushered in Children's Day on Nov 14 in a unique way. Instead of the usual song-dance-plays routine by teachers, we had a Show And Tell event which showcased classroom activities on the basis of some of the Multiple Intelligences - Verbal, Visual-Spatial, Logical-Mathematical and Kinesthetic.
The secondary school students were given an orientation into the importance of the Multiple Intelligences and how they help in the learning process. Parents got to see the different methods used in class to transfer knowledge.
In the auditorium, students with verbal strengths met parents with their charts, games and displays. Performances like 'Shakespeare in the Contemporary', 'Kya AAp Athvi pass se teez hai', poem recitations and skits pertaining to their lessons kept the parents enthralled.
One of the Visual-Spatial activities was conducted in a dark room by the physics department. They transported us to outer space, a world of stars, and other heavenly bodies. It was a truly celestial experience!
Our Kinesthetic classroom experiences were showcased by the chemistry and biology departments. Aloe vera juice made by the students was given to parents and they were told about its importance to our health. We also explained how starch was produced by leaves through an experiment.
This room also had displays of all field trips undertaken. Mathematical quizzes, games, classifications and survey results were put up in the Logical-Mathematical room.
'Mission Intelligence' made us realise and gauge the type of learners we are... that is, whether we are Word smart, Action smart, Number smart or Picture smart, depending on how we portray ourselves during the activity. We also realised the need to better ourselves in areas that we were not very good at. The term 'child-centred' education, which is the mantra of today, was well understood.
While we students learnt how to be polite when relating to visitors, parents understood the level of maturity we have attained during the year.
