More skilled grads in communications

By Priya Kulasagaran

UNIVERSITI Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Media Prima Berhad recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of producing skilled graduates and advancing research in the communications sector.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Media Prima chairman Datuk Abdul Mutalib.

UiTM was reprsented by vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah, while CEO of television networks, Datuk Farid Ridzuan, represented Media Prima.

Under the MoU, qualified UiTM students will be given internship and part-time employment opportunities at Media Prima.

A total of 100 UiTM students will undergo a three-month stint at various Media Prima departments.

Upon graduation, eligible students will be absorbed for internal positions in the company.

Mohamed Khaled said that the collaboration is a win-win situation for both parties.

"The university will be able to see how relevant the current syllabus is in preparing students for working life and the industry is able to ensure the sustainability of its human capital," he said.

Farid Ridzuan said that the effort is part of Media Prima's social responsibility towards the community.
