Catholic High dominates O-level list

The 2008 GCE O-level results are out and Haw Sue Hern from CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School has topped the nation with 10 A1s.

Another notable school is Catholic High which produced almost half of Singapore's top Secondary 4 Chinese students.

Of the 36,640 school candidates who sat for the exam, 99.9 per cent - or 36,596 - have been awarded certificates. This year's results was comparable to the 2007 O-level exams.

This year, 4,254 or 32.4 per cent of the 2008 Secondary 4 Normal Academic students sat for 1-2 subjects in the O-Level Examination. 90.5 per cent of these students obtained at least one O-level pass.

A total of 3,087 private candidates sat for the 2008 O-Level Examination. Of these, 2,739 or 88.7 per cent have been awarded certificates.
