READY, set, go! To change the impression that libraries are boring and stuffy, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) students have come up with their own 'Amazing Race' at the Jurong West Public Library.

In the American reality show, competitors race to solve puzzles and undertake tasks to get clues that would point them to their next destination. Similarly, the participants of The Race @ The Frontier will solve puzzles to discover the titles of books that they would have to find in the library.

The race is part of Reach & Discover @ The Frontier, a full-day event that will be held from 10am to 5pm at Frontier Community Club (FCC) tomorrow, to showcase the library's role as an 'infotainment' hub.

The event is the result of a first-time collaboration between NP, the National Library Board (NLB) and FCC. It is open to all members of the public for free.

The organisers, Ms Nicole Tan, 19, and her classmate, Ms Koh Rong Zhi, 20 - who are final-year students at NP - told my paper that the race aims to familiarise contestants with the library's resources.

Ms Koh said she hoped to see 12,000 Singaporeans participate in the event.

Ms Tan added: 'The library is not a boring place. It offers resources which can enrich one's life, but many of us don't use them enough.'

Students from NP will also be collaborating with the NLB to hold a party at Zouk on Feb 28, as part of the youth campaign of the Speak Good English Movement.
