To make it easier for students and parents to know more about the courses in Australia, well-known universities such as Edith Cowan, Griffith and Monash will be participating in an education fair this weekend at Suntec Singapore from 12pm to 6pm at Hall 402, level 4.
Organised by the Australian government, the two-day Australian Education Showcase 2009 will include representatives from vocational colleges such as Le Cordon Bleu, which specialises in culinary training.
Also available are advisers from schools with boarding facilities such as The Kilmore International School, which offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum for students between 3 and 19 years.
Australia has traditionally been a favourite destination among Singaporeans who go overseas for their studies.
Now that the Singapore dollar is on par with the Australian currency, the cost of acquiring a degree or professional training and education in vocations such as hospitality management and culinary arts is about 30 per cent lower.
Programmes lined up at the fair include talks on popular courses, English Language requirements, and living and studying in Australia.
Students keen on pursuing science, research and astronomy studies can attend the keynote seminar by renowned Australian astrophysicist, Professor Peter Quinn of the University of Western Australia.
He will share his insights on the Square Kilometre Array project, a proposed $2.6 billion dollar astronomical facility - the world's largest - to be operational in 2020.
Besides educational and career opportunities, the facility is expected to offer researchers a peek into the historical formation of the universe and aid them in the search for signs of extraterrestrial life.
