The Minister for Trade and Industry (MTI) has appointed Professor Sir George Radda to the Board of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
His appointment takes effect on 15 June this year. He replaces Professor Sir David Lane, A*STAR's Chief Scientist and former BMRC Chairman, will retire from the Board.
Sir George is Chairman of A*STAR's Biomedical Research Council (BMRC), an appointment he assumed on 1 April this year.
He has been a member of the A*STAR Biomedical Sciences International Advisory Council from 2003 to 2005, the founding Chairman of the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium, since it officially opened in April 2006, and the Deputy Chairman of BMRC's Biomedical Sciences & Technology Group from Oct 2008 to Mar 2009.
His long and illustrious career includes a distinguished appointment as Chief Executive of UK's Medical Research Council from 1996 to 2003.
Born in Hungrary in 1936, Sir George was awarded the 2008 National Day Public Service Medal for his contributions to the development of research in Singapore.
