Youths too busy with school to watch AYG

my paper

AFTER watching the opening ceremony of the Asian Youth Games on Monday night, I would like to share the following heartfelt sentiments:

So many empty seats - where were all our youths?

The answer? They were busy preparing for the re-opening of school.

Why was the ceremony held on Monday night, on the first day of a new school term, when more students could have attended it last Saturday?

Why didn't the Ministry of Education declare Monday a school holiday?

That would have encouraged our youths to support the inaugural AYG by attending its official opening.

MOE needs to do more to encourage youths to attend the various events. How can they do so when they need to attend classes and when most of the competitions are taking place during school hours?

We need more support to make this a memorable event that we can all be proud of.
