Textbooks: Publisher assures parents

WE REFER to the letter by Mr Mickey Chiang, 'Spare kids the tough textbook terms' (June 12).

We thank Mr Chiang for his valuable feedback, which will assist Marshall Cavendish in enhancing the content of our textbooks and other educational materials.

We understand his concern as a parent about some of the terms used in lower primary textbooks. However, the terms highlighted are for facilitating lesson planning and delivery by teachers who have been trained to provide guidance to their students. Students are not required to learn them.

We assure Mr Chiang and all parents that Marshall Cavendish spares no effort in making our textbooks as learner-friendly as possible.

We acknowledge that it remains a challenge for educators and publishers to present material to young learners in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, yet providing the necessary guidance for teachers in the same textbooks.

To achieve this, our textbooks are developed in consultation with a dedicated team of educators and teachers that possesses a deep understanding of the learning capabilities of young learners across all grades.

We value your feedback and will continue to take it into consideration, especially when planning material in the future.
