A total of four primary schools will be upgraded from 2011 to 2013 under the eleventh phase of the Programme for Rebuilding and IMproving Existing Schools (PRIME).

This is part of the Ministry of Education's (MOE) efforts to renew and support schools in Singapore in order to provide a conducive learning environment for students.

The four schools slated for upgrading are: Canossa Convent Primary School,  De La Selle School, Seng Kang Primary School and Woodlands Ring Primary School.

Canossa Convent Primary School, located at Geylang and De La Selle School at Choa Chu Kang will be temporarily relocated during the upgrading work. Canossa Convent will be relocated to the former Macpherson Secondary site at Circuit Road from Jan 2012 to Dec 2013 while the De La Salle school will be relocated to the former Teck Whye Primary/Secondary site at Jalan Teck Whye from Jan 2011 to Dec 2012.

The other two schools will be upgraded on-site, starting Jan 2011.

Another 20 primary and secondary schools will be planned for upgrading over the next few years.

Under the scheme, schools can expect to have more classrooms and be fitted with new or upgraded facilities including media resource libraries, IT learning resource rooms and pastoral care rooms.

The infrastructure will also be made more flexible to support teaching approaches that better engage students, for example, classrooms that can be opened up for larger group lectures.

The provision of an indoor sports hall will also be part of the upgrading plan.

The public may obtain more information on PRIME at http://www.moe.gov.sg/prime/ or through the MOE Customer Service Hotline at 6872 2220 during office hours.
