BUTTERWORTH: A primary school and a polytechnic here were closed for a week from yesterday after some of their students came down with influenza A (H1N1).

They are SRJK (C) Aik Keow in Teluk Air Tawar and Politeknik Seberang Prai in Permatang Pauh near here.

The polytechnic is located next to the Universiti Teknologi Mara Permatang Pauh campus, which was closed for a week from last Wednesday after 10 students came down with influenza A.

Bernama reported state Health Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh as saying that the Health Ministry had ordered the closure of Aik Keow after 16 students came down with H1N1.

Phee said 36 students from the polytechnic were found to have been infected by the virus.

He said all those who came down with influenza A had been quarantined and were receiving treatment.

They are reported to be in stable condition.

"I want to advise those quarantined to be disciplined and stay home at all times to ensure they do not infect others," he added.
