LTA Academy to help train university students

THE LTA Academy will contribute to a foreign university's Master's programme in transport and logistics - its first involvement in courses offered by an educational institution.

Part of the programme's coursework may require students of the University of Munich to attend seminars, workshops and lectures or conduct research at LTA Academy in Hampshire Road.

'LTA Academy will be able to leverage on the expertise of the University of Munich for collaboration in professional training, research, knowledge exchange and dissemination of best practices in the field of land transport,' said LTA Academy dean Mohinder Singh.

The university will also exchange knowledge by participating in LTA Academy's international conferences, workshops and exhibitions.

The tie-up results from a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) signed yesterday by LTA Academy and GIST-TUM Asia to develop joint programmes.

GIST-TUM Asia is the German Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) - an academic venture abroad by Technische Universitat Munchen (TUM) or University of Munich in collaboration with National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.

As a subsidiary and representative of TUM, GIST is active in the management of post-graduate education, executive training and contract research. Its master programmes focus on aerospace engineering, industrial chemistry, integrated circuit design, micro-electronics and transport and logistics.

By collaborating with GIST-TUM Asia, LTA Academy aims to promote its brand and programmes.

LTA Academy, a division of the Land Transport Authority, is a training centre that shares Singapore's experience and expertise in land transport with other countries. Established in 2006, it also fosters research and exchange of best practices within the global land transport community.

LTA Academy has signed a total of 10 MOCs with overseas institutions. Besides GIST-TUM Asia, it also signed an MOC yesterday with the Intelligent Transportation Society of Singapore. Last month it signed two MOCs with China Academy of Transportation Sciences and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co in Beijing.
