KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA -"The opportunity given by MSU to me to continue my studies at Northwood University has proven to be worthwhile. There, I learnt how to be independent," explained Afiqah Lokman, who is on her semester break.
Afiqah was the recipient of MSU President's Scholarship and is currently pursuing her Bachelor in International Business degree with a double major in commerce and marketing at the Northwood University, Michigan campus.
"Initially it was a challenge for me to adapt to the demands of the semester system at Northwood. However, the good rapport with my counsellors helped me overcome this," Afiqah added.
"I'm indebted to MSU, particularly Prof Datuk Wira Mohd Shukri and the faculty members, who have given me the support for all this to be possible," said Afiqah, when asked who had inspired her. She also attributed her success to her mother.
On the success in her studies, Afiqah said a systematic approach and good focus on the subject matter, gave her better understanding of the programme's requirement.
"Besides, one has to be active in the co-curricular activities as these will define our personality and improve one's soft skills."
She recalled having participated in several co-curricular activities during her first and second semester in Northwood University particularly as a member of the Intercultural Club and in community activities.
She also represented the Malaysian community during Chinese New Year celebrations organised by the university.
Being involved in the extra- curricular activities has helped Afiqah to develop her skills in planning and the execution of her current duties.
Upon her graduation in February, she hopes to pursue her master's in the same field.
As part of its International Students Exchange Program-me arrangements, the Management and Science University provides opportunities for its graduates to continue with their studies overseas.
"This year alone more than 30 students have left for Poland, the Czech Republic, Japan, Indonesia, the United States and Indonesia for continuing studies in their field of choice," said MSU corporate communications vice-president Rosli Yusof.
