SIM Global Education awarded the 25 scholarships to its first batch of scholars this evening.

Among the recipients are national canoeist, Jori Lim and Annabel Woo, a national lady rugby player - both also play on SIM teams.

Started in October 2008, the SIM Global Education Scholarship Awards are awarded annually to local and international students to pursue undergraduate studies at SIM GE.

Each year, up to 35 scholarships are offered in three areas of achievement, namely academic excellence, artistic as well as sporting achievements.

This year, 18 students received their awards for their academic achievements, and seven for artistic or sporting abilities.

The 25 were selected from 341 applications. Of the final award winners, 19 are Singaporean and six international students.

At the award ceremony, SIM president Mr Lee Kwok Cheong said that SIM was increasingly attracting good quality students.

"Some of you have been offered places at local universities such as the NUS but have chosen to study at SIM either because our course better suits your interest or you prefer the allrounded approach we offer.

"I applaud you for having the maturity and courage to stand by your own convictions to pursue what you think is best for you."
