Promote use of e-readers in schools
Mon, Jan 04, 2010
my paper

AS SINGAPORE rings in the new year and schools reopen, I hope that the Ministry of Education (MOE) would consider promoting the use of e-readers, especially in primary schools.

Carrying fewer books and learning materials would mean that young children have a lighter load to bear.

This also helps schools go green, as less paper will be used to produce learning materials.

Amazon.com has sold more e-book downloads than physical books this Christmas season for the first time in its history.

This indicates a growing trend.

The MOE could take this opportunity to go green on a large scale and take advantage of the latest technology.
