Primary 1 registration

FROM July, Singaporeans will get two ballot slips each - one more than permanent residents (PRs) - when they ballot for places for their children in Primary 1, giving them a better chance of getting schools of their choice. Now, PRs and citizens alike get one slip.

During the Primary 1 Registration Exercise, places in schools are distributed according to a list of criteria. For instance, in Phase 1, places are for pupils with older siblings in the same school. Balloting is done when applicants outnumber places.

The change is part of the Government's move to enhance the privileges of being a citizen.
