The girl in the widely-circulated bullying clip has come out to clarify the reason for the attack on her.
According to a report in Guang Ming Daily, the Malaysian teen, Wang Si Min, said she was targeted because she had stood up for a friend at school whom the bullies had picked on for being 'too sweet and girlish'.
Wang had been surrounded by five girls and three boys at a shopping mall and then led to a stairwell, where three of the girls attacked her.
It was rumoured that she had stolen another girl's boyfriend, but that was not the case, she said.
Her father had called for a press conference on Sunday, showing reporters a police report that he had made against the group who attacked his daughter.
The girl was slapped four times, causing her face to become red and swollen. She was also kicked once, in the stomach, and forced to kneel and beg for mercy.
Her father was overseas at the time and did not realise what had happened until someone alerted him to the newspaper report and video.
He called for the teens to identify themselves and apologise, or, he would "see them in court".
Wang told reporters that all except one of the attackers were from her school. She also knew one other person in the group, a male teen whom she described as an 'old friend' whom she had not seen for awhile.
After a round of beatings by the girls, the male teen could be seen getting up from the steps to raise his fist towards the girl aggressively, before dropping his hand.
She revealed that he had intentionally stepped in at that point to give her a signal asking her to give in, for fear that the situation might get worse.
It was then that she got down on her knees as the attackers had demanded, and pleaded for them to stop.
Dropped out of school
Wang also told reporters that she had dropped out of school because of her poor grades, and not because of the incident.
However, she did not deny that even if she had done well in school, she would not have wanted to continue studying there for fear of running into the bullies again.
