Indian government offers scholarships for undergraduate courses

Malaysia, KUALA LUMPUR: The Indian government is giving out scholarships to children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) for undergraduate professional and general courses in India during the 2010-11 academic year.

The undergraduate courses include engineering, architecture, technology, humanities, liberal arts, commerce, management (business administration and business management), journalism, hotel management, agriculture/ animal husbandry, sciences and law.

There are no scholarships for medical and related courses.

'The scholarships will cover 75% of the institutional cost which includes tuition fee, hostel fee and other institutional charges or US$3,600 (S$5,043), whichever is less,' said the Indian High Commi'ssion here in a statement yesterday.

Candidates would only be eligible if their total family income does not exceed US$2,250.

'Children of NRIs should have pursued at least three years of education inclusive of 11th and 12th grade or equivalent (not beyond) in a foreign country the last six years and passed the qualifying examination abroad,' it said.

The filled-in applications should be sent directly to: The Project Manager (SPDC), Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed. CIL), Placement & Secondment Division, Ed.CIL House, No 18A, Sector-16A, NOIDA-201 301, Uttar Pradesh (UP), India.

A photocopy of the filled-in form should be sent to High Commission of India (Education Section), No 2, Jalan Taman Duta, off Jalan Duta, 50480, Kuala Lumpur. The last date for receipt of the application forms in India is June 10, 2010.
