MUAR: A Year Four pupil of SKJ (C) Chung Hwa 2B fell from the first floor balcony onto the roof of a pathway after climbing the balcony wall while playing. Luckily, he escaped serious injury.

Teachers rushed the traumatised boy to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital at about 6.30am yesterday.

A senior teacher, who wished to remain anonymous, said the boy could have been seriously injured if he had fallen onto the tarmac below.

She said the boy and several other pupils were believed to be playing along the balcony when he climbed up the balcony wall.

The incident happened before the teachers arrived at the school.

"We urge parents not to send their children too early as the classes only begin at 7.30am," she said at the school yesterday.

Meanwhile, the school board of directors chairman Datuk Koh Kim Toon said parents should advise their children on the dangers of climbing the wall.

Shortly after the incident, the school engaged workers to repair the roof of the pathway.

"It was just lucky that the pupil fell onto the roof, a drop of less than 2m," Koh said, adding that it could have been a serious matter if he had fallen onto the tarmac.
