Former National Kidney Foundation chairman Richard Yong is scheduled to return to Singapore today according to a statement by the Ministry of Law and Commercial Affairs Department in response to media query about Singapore's extradition request.
The 65-year-old's expected return comes about a month after he was arrested by Hong Kong police at the request of Singapore's Commercial Affairs Department
He is expected to go before the Subordinate Courts on tomorrow, August 4, 2007 to face charges under the Penal Code and the Bankruptcy Act.
The 65-year-old bankrupt had been on the run for seven weeks, after he left Singapore without getting the permission of the Official Assignee, a breach punishable by a jail term and fine.
He will have to explain his flight, and why he sold off $7.5 million in properties to avoid paying NKF damages.
Yong's wife, On Shu Kio, 64, remains in Hong Kong. She was charged with illegally moving about $4 million from the couple's joint account in Singapore to her account in Hong Kong, before the money ended up in an ING Bank account in Britain.
