MUAR, MALAYSIA - A Customs officer from the preventive division was killed during the filming of a special television drama for the department's anti-smuggling campaign here Thursday.
Officer Mohd Noh Zainuddin, 33, from Pahang, who was from Muar Customs, died upon arrival at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital at about 6pm Thursday.
Popular actor Kamal Bakar, 46, from Excellent Pictures Sdn Bhd, and local boat operator Gan Maan Wah suffered minor injuries.
Mohd Noh, who was playing the role of a smuggler, was in the "smuggler's boat" along with Kamal and Gan.
Gan said two Customs boats were chasing his boat when the third Customs boat approached from the side and crashed into his boat hitting Mohd Noh while he and Kamal were thrown overboard.
He said the incident happened at about 5.30pm about two nautical miles off the Muar estuary.
Customs officers rushed to rescue them and took them to the jetty at Tanjung Emas.
Gan said he was given outpatient treatment while Kamal was treated for shock and told to rest in hospital.
Earlier, Muar Customs' preventive division chief Khasmuri Mohamad said the film crew from Kuala Lumpur had begun shooting the movie which would be aired over RTM1 in conjunction with World Customs Day on Jan 27.
