>WASHINGTON - A MAGNITUDE 6.2 earthquake hit Indonesia's Irian Jaya region, the US Geological Survey said on Sunday.

The quake, very shallow at only 35 km deep, struck at 0312 GMT (11.15am Singapore time) 8 km north of the town of Manokwari. -- REUTERS
