BATU PAHAT: Four robbers gave a security guard an RM50 (SGD 21) "tip" before carting away computers and other equipment worth about RM90,000 (SGD 39 570) from a school near here.

About 2am Sunday, the robbers broke into SJKC Kangkar Baru, Yong Peng, tied and blind folded the security guard before ransacking the school's computer room, headmaster's office and teacher's room.

Among the items taken were three desktop computers, three laptops, an Internet server and five LCD projectors.

They spent about three hours in the school, disconnecting the equipment and loading them into a lorry.

They told the guard that they were stealing the items to prepare for the coming Chinese New Year celebrations. They left at 5am.

MCA Youth secretary-general Dr Wee Ka Siong, who visited the school later Sunday, said the robbers were very IT-savvy based on the way they disconnected the server cables and the computers.

"They only chose brand new notebooks and computers," he said.

"We condemn this despicable act and urge the public not to buy these items if they happen to come across them," he said.

Dr Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, said this was the second such case in his constituency.

The first was at the SJKC Lam Lee last year, where four computers were stolen.

"I have informed the district education office as well as the police. I hope such crimes can be curbed," he said.
