Quake hits eastern Japan

>TOKYO - A MODERATE 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted large areas of eastern Japan on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, officials said.

The quake occurred at 9.47 am (0047 GMT), 110km below the seabed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chiba prefecture, south of Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

There was no fear of a tsunami following the quake, the agency added. -- AFP
