DHAKA, BANGLADESH - At least 21 people died after a ferry capsized in a river near the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka, on Thursday after it was hit by another ferry, police said.

"So far 21 bodies have been recovered," a police officer said, adding that the ferry was carrying around 100 people.

Most of the victims were women. The others were either rescued or swam to safety.

Hundreds of Bangladeshis die in ferry accidents every year, mostly blamed on loading beyond the boats' listed capacity. --Reuters
