TAIPEI - A 5.1-MAGNITUDE earthquake jolted Taiwan on Saturday, the central weather bureau said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The tremor struck at 12.58am and was centred 56 kilometres south-east of Nanao in the north-eastern coastal Ilan county, the bureau said.

It occurred at a depth of 2.5 kilometres undersea, it said.
