Thaksin, where are you?

Ousted Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra on Saturday checked out of the luxury Bangkok hotel where he has been staying since his return from exile last week, his spokesperson said.

Sasani Nakpong declined to say where Thaksin would be moving to but said the 58-year-old former prime minister would remain in Thailand.

Since returning to Thailand on Thursday, Thaksin has been staying at the Peninsula Hotel.

"He already checked out of the Peninsula this morning. He said he needs more privacy for him and his family," Sasani said.

A close aide to Thaksin denied rumours that he will travel to his native province of Chiang Mai.
