HANOI, VIETNAM - BIRD flu has hit another province in southern Vietnam, killing hundreds of ducks on a poultry farm, official reports said on Thursday.

The virus killed 900 out of 1,300 ducks in Soc Trang province, the Animal Health Department said on its website, while the rest of the flock has been slaughtered, the source said.

Nine areas across Vietnam currently are fighting bird flu, including the capital Hanoi, the department said on its website.

The World Health Organisation has so far confirmed 371 human cases of H5N1 bird flu worldwide, of which 235 people have died, including 51 Vietnamese. -- AFP
