JAKARTA, INDONESIA - A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of Indonesia's Aceh province on Tuesday, but there was no threat of a tsunami and no immediate reports of damage, geologists said.

The epicentre of the quake, which hit 68km deep and struck at 5.29pm (6.29pm Singapore time), was 112km south-west of provincial capital Banda Aceh, the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said.

'For the time being, there have been no measurements of raised water levels,' BMG official Rudi said.

No reports of damage have been received by the agency, he added.

Aceh was the region worst hit by the quake-triggered Asian tsunami in December 2004, with close to 170,000 killed. -- AFP
