Celebrities respond to Sichuan disaster with big hearts

Celebrities from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan have donated generously in support of relief efforts in quake hit Sichuan, China, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

Jackie Chan has stepped forward with a whopping 10 million yuan contribution (some S$2 million), said the local Chinese daily.

Gillian Chung who is on a hiatus after being embroiled in the Edison Chen sex photo scandal, has donated 100, 000 yuan (some S$20,000). Her Twins' partner Charlene Choi has set aside 300, 000 yuan (some S$60,000).

Chinese national and basketball superstar star Yao Ming has donated S$100,000.

The 7.9 magnitude quake epicentred at Wenchuan County is believed to have killed up to 13,000 people, according to estimates.
