Two killed, 25 injured as bus crashed into truck in Banyumas

PURWOKERTO, INDONESIA - Two people were killed Saturday early morning and 25 other injured when a bus crashed into a truck in Sokaraja district in Banyumas regency, Central Java.

The bus was heading to the regental seat of Purwokerto from Central Java provincial capital Semarang while the truck was going to Semarang.

Eyewitnesses said the fully-loaded bus was trying to overtake another vehicle when the truck carrying timber coming from the other direction.

The two dead people are the bus and truck drivers. Police have yet to identify the victim because the bodies were badly crushed in the impact.

Both the bodies and injured passengers were brought to the Margonosukarjo General Hospital in Purwokerto.

Police have yet to determine the cause of the accident but said it was likely both drivers were driving with excessive speed as shown by the crushed truck and bus' forward section.
