The New Straits Times

PORT DICKSON, MALAYSIA: A restaurant in Lukut near here has been ordered to close after it turned its toilet into a storeroom.

The order was issued by the state health department on Wednesday.

A check by the department revealed that onions, rice and potatoes were being stored in the toilet.

The restaurant was also using the same refrigerator to keep ice-cubes and meat.

Department director Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said 21 out of 30 restaurants inspected were ordered to close.

"Most of them had food handlers who were not using aprons. The storerooms and kitchens were dirty. They also failed to observe other hygiene requirements."

He said the operators were given two weeks to clean up their premises.
