Writer to shower cash for publicity

Jakarta, Indonesia - BUSINESSMAN Tung Desem Waringin plans to throw 100 million rupiah (S$14,600) out of an airplane over Jakarta tomorrow as a publicity stunt to promote his new book.

'I want to create a rain of money in Jakarta,' said author and motivational speaker Tung, 42. 'It's a little bit crazy, but it's marketing.'

But police spokesman I Ketut Untung said the authorities may not let him carry out the plan because it could draw huge crowds and cause chaos.

Tens of millions of Indonesians live on less than US$1 (S$1.40) a day, and food and aid giveaways always draw large crowds.

Mr Tung said that instead of opting to advertise his book in the conventional way, he came up with an idea that 'will make people happy'.
