A SINGAPORE private school will be giving out scholarships to three Chinese national students affected by the earthquake in Sichuan last month.
The Nanyang Institute of Management in Shenton Way will sponsor the fees for their three-year degree course in tourism and hospitality management, which cost about $30,000 each.
A Chinese company which does not want to be named is collecting funds for their living expenses and airfare costs.
The three scholarships are worth about $200,000.
Chairman of the school, Lieutenant-General (Retired) Ng Jui Peng, said on Friday: 'We are offering them places in the tourism and hospitality management degree programme because we find that many of our past graduates are able to find jobs easily. With a job, they can earn a living and help their families back in China.'
Two students will be selected from Sichuan's Beichuan High School, which was razed during the quake, and another will be from Sichuan's Han Yuan city.
They will be selected based on their high school examination results, which will be released in August, scores on English proficiency tests and recommendations from their school principals.
The students are expected to arrive in Singapore in September.
