BANGKOK - THAILAND'S Supreme Court agreed to hear accusations against the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra over a breach of law, which puts the positions of three current Cabinet ministers in jeopardy.
The court ruled to go ahead with a case on whether Thaksin and 47 of his ministers at the time violated lottery laws when they launched a lottery scheme in 2003, a judge said in court on Monday.
The first hearing is due on Sept 26.
Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee, Labour Minister Uraiwan Thienthong and Deputy Transport Minister Anurak Jureemas, who were in the Thaksin Cabinet, may have to resign as a result.
The military overthrew Thaksin in 2006 and set up a committee to probe accusations of abuse of power and wrongdoing against him and his Cabinet. This lottery case is one of several the anti-graft committee recommended the courts should pursue. -- REUTERS
