Aso may shelve plans for Nov polls
Thu, Oct 02, 2008
The Straits Times

TOKYO - Plans for a snap poll early next month seem to have been put on hold as the global financial crisis strengthens Prime Minister Taro Aso's resolve to boost his country's flagging economy.

It was earlier speculated that Mr Aso might dissolve the Lower House tomorrow to pave the way for an early general election on Nov 2.

His ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which had launched preparations for possible early polls, has now also changed its mind as it is afraid of being criticised for creating a political vacuum amid the deepening global financial crisis.
