Indian bus plunges into gorge, 45 dead

SHIMLA, India (AFP) - - A bus plunged into a gorge in northern India on Tuesday, killing 45 people and leaving five seriously injured, police said.

The accident took place near the popular hill resort of Kufri in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

"Forty-five have been killed and five are critically injured," Shimla police chief R.M Sharma told reporters.

India has the highest annual road death toll in the world, with accidents especially common in mountainous regions.
