KUWAIT CITY - Nine Kuwaitis and a Qatari consul were among the hostages freed on Friday from a hotel in the Indian city of Mumbai attacked by suspected Islamic militants, Kuwait's foreign ministry said.

Spokesman Jassem al-Amir told the official KUNA news agency that eight women and one man had left the luxury Oberoi/Trident hotel, according to Kuwaiti consular services in Mumbai.

He later said that Qatar's consul in Mumbai, Salah al-Jabiri, came out at the same time as the Kuwaiti man.

KUNA said Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al-Sabah had ordered the despatch of a special plane to bring the Kuwaitis home after their ordeal.

Indian police said that at least 93 people were freed on Friday from the hotel, which officials said now under the control of security forces more than 36 hours after militants attacked more than a dozen sites in a brazen attack on Wednesday night.
