Quake hits off Indonesia

>JAKARTA - A 5.6-MAGNITUDE earthquake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake hit at 11.06 pm (12.06am Singapore time) 210 kilometres southwest of Bandar Lampung on the island's southern coast, at a depth of 35 kilometres, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii did not issue an alert for the region. -- AFP
