Pictures of Zhang Ziyi and finance Vivi Nevo sun tanning on a St Bart's beach drew mixed reactions from the Chinese Internet community.
While some condemned the star for her actions, others sympathised with Zhang, arguing that her privacy was invaded.
Some comments found on various websites:
"My strongest condemnation to the paparazzi who took these pictures." --Liu Yaling
"If you would like to apportion the blame, blame the photographer that went out of his way to expose her. Zhang wasn't walking through a shopping centre. She was tanning on the beach where everyone removes their top to tan." --Anonymous
"Why is this such a big deal? People enjoy being naked, it's comfortable. That's been true for 10,000 years, why is it so shocking today?" --Stephan Larose
"Ziyi used to be very careful (about her image), so it seems this time she's realled messed up. The only feeling I got after I saw the pictures was that the overseas (Western) paparazzi is very daring. The pictures were taken quite professionally, and the images were good. There isn't one picture that was flawed, or taken in a bad angle, etc. These pictures were much better than those that Edison Chen took (in last year's sex photo scandal)." --Dancing High Heels
"She is a shameless woman, it's disgusting. She's polluted our eyes." --Anonymous
"These famous people behave badly in public, and yet they blame the paparazzi for taking and distributing photos of their bad behaviour. It's difficult being a woman, but it's even more difficult being a famous woman! --Shanghainese
