Dozens killed in Indian bus plunge

JAMMU, India (AFP) - - At least 30 people were killed when a bus plunged into a river in Indian Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.

"The dead bodies of at least 30 bus passengers killed in the accident were fished out from the deep gorge," said Abdul Majid Wani, a member of Kashmir's legislative assembly.

Officials said eight seriously injured passengers were also airlifted to hospital in Jammu, winter capital of Indian-administered Kashmir.

Police said the bus was on its way from the town of Bhaderwah to Jammu when it skidded off the road.

Bus accidents are common on the treacherous 300-kilometre (180-mile) highway linking Jammu with Srinagar, the summer capital.
